When funding falls short, millions of people living with HIV face disrupted care, declining health, and for some, the risk of death.

The world must come together to address the growing challenges threatening the HIV response.

If we fail to act, we risk losing the chance to end AIDS.
January 12, 2026 at 8:31 AM
Shared responsibility and global solidarity have been the foundation of the historic reductions in new HIV infections and AIDS-related deaths.

This must continue!

Programmes serving key populations are vital to slow new HIV infections and accelerate progress toward ending AIDS.

But funding cuts are undermining these efforts, at a time when HIV is rising fastest among key populations.

These services are lifelines. We must protect them.
December 17, 2025 at 8:23 AM
The ongoing reductions in international aid, and abrupt US funding cuts, have exposed how fragile the HIV response becomes when resources are withdrawn.

We have the innovation, medicines, knowledge and expertise. What we need now is sustained global solidarity.

Every week, 4000 adolescent girls and young women in sub-Saharan Africa acquired HIV in 2024. Programmes that empower and support them are essential.

But in 2025, funding cuts wiped out many of these services.

We can drive down new HIV infections dramatically and move closer to ending AIDS as a public health threat; only if breakthrough medicines are scaled up and reach the people who need them most, quickly and equitably.

As global HIV funding declines, countries need to step up by increasing domestic financing for HIV programmes and building long-term plans for a more sustainable response.

Today is #WorldAIDSDay.

The HIV response has always shown what humanity can achieve when we stand united.

Global collective action has saved millions of lives, but shrinking funding now puts this progress at risk.

Leaders must recommit to ending AIDS and saving lives.

Most low-income countries with heavy HIV burdens cannot close resource gaps on their own.

Debt constraints already limit their ability to invest in HIV programmes, and funding cuts have further weakened their responses to HIV.

Global solidarity is needed now, more than ever.

Science has made it possible for people living with HIV, including pregnant women, to live healthy lives and protect their babies from HIV.
But sudden funding cuts in 2025 disrupted essential care.

Gender based violence, including digital violence, drives girls out of school; making them more vulnerable to violence, HIV, exploitation, and early pregnancy.

1.4 million children are living with HIV. A figure the world cannot accept.

On #WorldChildrensDay, UNAIDS calls on leaders to close the paediatric treatment gap by ensuring babies are born HIV-free, and every child is tested, treated and reached, no matter where they live.
November 20, 2025 at 9:52 AM
Stigma and discrimination keep people living with and affected by HIV from the health services they need.

We must dismantle these barriers, because doing so saves lives.
