Will it, though? I’d really like to hear a compelling argument on how we’re going to have a fair election in 2028. I just don’t see these people stepping down, or anyone in a purged DOJ/military forcing them to.

Just in the last year alone, the USA has been out-democracy’ed by Brazil, South Korea, and now the Phillipines.

Last I checked they don’t allow dual citizenship. You’d have to renounce in the USA, I think.

The whole band on that record is phenomenal. Such a legendary performance.

They’re saying they want to have an economic partnership with Russia. It actually works in their favour if the territories remain Russian occupied.

I really don’t think my amygdala can handle one more “defying norms” take on this literal white christofascist coup happening in real time.

It makes sense if you start from the assumption that Ukraine has no sovereignty.

It’s not just tax breaks, it’s:

* insurance against retribution (e.g. tariffs)

* government contracts (as Mark points out)

* vintage “he’s not really going to go that far” mythology

What frustrates me about “we need a Joe Rogan” is that Joe Rogan has always been there for us to use. We just avoided him. Bernie got slayed by liberals for going on. Kamala never went on. We can’t cede that ground and give these people an uncontested stage.

What a great read. And a comment thread full of intelligent people making coherent analysis and insight in response.

Amazing how far social media has carried us away from the best virtues of the internet — long form content and balanced discussion.

“AI… for what purpose” is a pretty good summary of the last year in tech.

I need to know what the correct translation of that actually is. This can't be more than 10% accurate. Most of those words don't belong within three paragraphs of a wristband.

I don’t think the issue with the coin is about the thousands of people who will lose money as much as the small handful of people who will absolutely make a ton of money.

I would have agreed with you back in June, but the way he closed out his term was one of the biggest own-goals in history. It arguably cost us the election and so, so much more. He never should have run again.

They’re exempt from VAT (~50% the cost of a car), free parking, no tolls, free charging, and they’re allowed to drive in bus lanes.

All made possible by Norway’s massive ~$2T sovereign wealth fund, which is basically just oil money.

It’s interesting, but it’s an outlier and nothing to emulate.

The implicit goal of anyone bringing up “but USA bad” in the context of litigating Russian terrorism is and always will be to whitewash their behaviour. And whatever high-minded thing you might claim to be doing is just not intellectually honest.

This is such a good point. If one country does bad things, it means other countries get to do as many bad things as they want. Cause that’s how advance civilisation in a meaningful, fair, and productive way.
