One thing that brings me some relief is how JD Vance has the charisma of a sopping wet wad of toilet paper.

I wonder what national emergency this is addressing.

Yeah, he wants the head room to do crazy stuff.

Some of our pro-democracy donors need to shift into documentation mode. We need a national nonprofit commission - Truth and Accountability - to take sworn depositions and documentation of these incidents. At a minimum, keep a running log. We need to be ready for prosecutions.

This. I continue believe the problem isn't the technology but the socio-economic system we've created. Our tech companies aren't selling devices - they're selling addiction and dependence. Put an open source LLM on your laptop and fuck 'em.

Never gonna happen.

True. Even more reason for someone - not you - to teach them how to use it.

Yes, I generally agree. It's a shame the technology has an unprincipled, addiction driven business model wrapped around it. If open source LLMs were built into local computers or hosted on university servers, I think people would have a very different reaction. Students deserve help.

Agreed on job responsibilities. You shouldn't teach them how to use a word processor either. Someone should, though.
December 22, 2025 at 12:27 PM
Yes, totally agree. Unfortunately, I think solving it requires people who know better learning to use it properly.
