As Trump said, they like the way Orban "solved the immigration problem": by making life so objectively shitty for 99% of the population that no one in their right mind would want to immigrate there. And they see that as a model for the US.

It's also worth mentioning that the big winners all ignored the centrist line that they had to pay lip service to the "legitimate concerns" of Real Americans® about the right of trans people to exist. I wonder if Ezra Klein and his ilk are going to rethink that. (Kidding -- of course they won't.)

I've thought that too, but I think the oligarchs have come to understand that Trump can be easily be bought with enough flattery and/or cash that they can get the cheap labor they need. There will always be "exceptions."

It’s not about deportation numbers. The objective is to make life unbearable enough for the people they hate that millions of them will “self-deport.”
