Oh totally. That's part of why I'm in love with the idea of networks like Bluesky. Decentralized, federated services can be made more resilient to these sorts of things.

Specifically, it appears that DNS has failed. DNS is the protocol to take an IP address and convert that into a Human-friendly name. When DNS fails, networks tend to crumble.

Amazon (AWS) is just one company that offers major hosting services for the Internet. There are a handful of others with their own pros and cons.

Most companies can't reasonably offer the infrastructure that it takes to run webservices securely and at scale. Thus, they turn to these companies.
