I agree that Dark Souls is an Action RPG from Japan, but I wouldn't consider it a JRPG. I'd argue JRPG is a genre term used to describe Japanese RPGs that follow a specific vibe, theme, atmosphere, mechanics, such as, or borrow from, FF or DQ or Tales or Trails etc.
