Hi #VGen artists and #art lovers. Help out a beginner digital artist with his portfolio (I have none, all practice work so far). For a like and follow, I will sketch or paint a fanart of your OC (DM if something else) for free. T&C in the poster below. Thanks.
Testing some stuff

yesterday, I said fuck it I don't understand color anyway. I don't understand why it's so hard or confusing to import and retain palettes in infinite painter?

Zoomed in of an illustration practice. Single layer. Trying out some techniques because I rely on the full size of the canvas for proportions, making my arts larger than necessary. Discovery: 2px pens and erasers for blur and texture, if you are not yet comfortable with pressure in digital pens.

A shading practice for today. I find that I prefer linear burn over multiply for stronger details with the same base color, using a shade lighter than the base for the midtone shadows. screen for eye and hair highlights. Linear burn for blocking foreground items like hair.

Today's self-sketch is done with krita. My steps are: sketch > blocking > duplicate silhoutte layer > turn duplicate to linear burn > use erase mode brushes to sculpt shadows > use a lambert lighting layer for highlights > adjust colors.

I still keep on losing track of my colors and brushes.

self sketch. I can't believe there remains an ache in my heart even in depicting myself

I hate realistic painting. I hate blended shading. But damn it I gotta learn these things to actually understand colors.

The more I study color:

myyy EYESSS!!! They're lying to me!!! Whyyyyy!!!

The fact that color is so fucking contextual is hurting my brain a lot.

Today's practice: studying TRC eyes. Less accuracy, more studying the stylistic choices.

There is a strong spatial awareness to CLAMP's wavy strokes; so much artistic knowledge carried per line.

This should be more but I was distracted by lunch and caffeine and I just became jittery.

Posemainiacs practice. First time. I realized that I need to make sketches simpler, but is easier said than done for more dynamic poses.

After much tinkering, I've decided to transition to Krita for much of my digital illustration studies. Eventually to Clip Paint Studio, but I would like to exhaust Krita as much as possible. I just happen to find a pen tablet more comforting than a stylus directly on the screen.

Today's sketch is a study of young Sakura from Syaoran's memory, from p. 140, ch. 182, vol. 23.

Line Art Practice-11/ 24-25/2025-Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle's Fai D. Flourite from Vol. 23, p. 10. Among TRC characters, Fai's hair is perhaps the most challenging because of the way the hairs flow and interweave into foreground & background without shadow hints.

#TIL I learned that the manga linework I'm studying used a single thickness pen; they only stylize the stroke by thickening it in certain places.

It's been a rough couple of days trying to understand cel-shading and coloring in digital illustration. And I keep on screwing up my color layers. #beginnerartist #digitalillustration #reflection
