Technically, no championship before 1998 is “legitimate” because there was no championship game. Schools claim dates before 1998 if there was a poll that ranked them at number one. (Or if they think they should have been)
Question, I see Ole Miss claims 3 national championships (1959, 1960, 1962). Are any of those what we'd consider legitimate?
