Ten days-a-singing! On October 10 2025, the amazing Alison Goldfrapp delivered her cover version of a truly wonderful classic track, to be played at a crucial moment of TWB. Yes, Alison Goldfrapp! What a joy and an honour and a treat. It'll be released as a single on her label and on Lorne Balfe's TWB soundtrack. It's gorgeous and mesmerising, and when you see it added to the picture... Oh! Perfect!

Bonus Tillytarmont Pictish stone!
An oval-ish shaped stone engraved with Pictish carvings of an eagle and the Pictish Beast Tillytarmont Pictish stone This stone was uncovered in the 1970s on a narrow spit of land between the rivers Isla and Deveron, close to where another five carved stones have been found. The symbols on this one are particularly finely carved, being an eagle and a 'Pictish beast'. A small cairn of stones was also found, supporting the idea that this stone may have marked the burial of a powerful person in the 6th or 7th centuries AD.

Unlike later vampires, The Vampyre barely mentions bloodsucking, instead Ruthven wreaks havoc through seduction, acting as a catalyst for his victims to unleash their repressed desires and tendencies. This opening passage locates the mythology of the vampire in "the general East", reiterating the idea that, although Ruthven is British, the origins of the vampire hail from the East and have travelled West to influence and disrupt society Frankenstein; or, the modern Prometheus Mary Shelley, 1831 edition (first edition 1818) Shelley first imagined the idea of Frankenstein while telling ghost stories with other writers. She was pregnant while writing the novel and had lost a baby the year before. After the death of her two-week-old daughter she writes of a recurring dream "that my little baby came to life again; that it had only been cold, and that we rubbed it before the fire, and it lived." Shelley writes of creation of life without woman or pregnancy, the creature innocent and loving, only becoming monstrous when exposed to fear and rejection by hit his own "father". Day off in lieu today so have treated myself to some Banffshire style butteries for my breakfast. If you haven't encountered a buttery/ rowie, they're a bit like a flat, dense croissant. Banffshire style have a touch of oats in them and they're my new favourite!

Library haul. Clear is for LGBT+ bookclub, the Two Roberts was from the queer artists panel I saw a few weeks ago at Wayword. It's a novel about the two artists Robert MacBryde and Robert Colquhoun who were in a long term relationship after meeting at Glasgow art school in the '30s

Just finished the fifth and final book of TL Huchu's Edinburgh Nights series. Goodbye Ropa Moyo! I've loved these books and can't wait to see what Huchu does next

Went to the new Jewry Wall museum in Leicester today and really enjoyed it. Also really enjoyed getting to see the notebook and photos of Kathleen Kenyon, who excavated in the 1930s 🏺
