It was in protest against the murder of a socialist MP. Two years later they were expelled in absentia. It was the real beginning of Mussolini’s dictatorship. Building totally separate communities is good but you can’t leave the center stage or you will be silenced in the long run.

I am not leaving X anyway. I dont think it’s right to leave it to them. In italian political tradition its called Aventine, from the hill where in early Roman republic plebeians retired in the first strike recorded in European history. Likewise, in 1924 Italian opposition MPs left parliament.

Bluesky looks a lot like my neighborhood the day they opened for the first time after lockdown. I saw a few people, we smiled and said hello. The local bar was open, you could smell the croissants from outside. I met a guy I always saw with his dog and after years I learned his name. What a day.
