Daily atrocities.
Record displacement.
But we are not powerless.
Solutions are within reach. But everyone needs to hold up their end of the bargain.

High Commissioner @filippograndi.unhcr.org gave this rallying cry as he opened his final #ExCom.

The scale is growing.

Over 100,000 people have been displaced in 2025 alone. Since 2017, more than 1.3 million have been uprooted. For the first time, all 17 districts of Cabo Delgado have been directly affected.

Violence flares again in northern Mozambique.

In just one week, nearly 22,000 people were forced to flee as the eight-year conflict intensifies. UNHCR is deeply concerned by the rapid rise in displacement.
Thousands of newly displaced families have arrived in Macomia district, seeking safety following a new wave of violence across Cabo Delgado. Many were forced to flee their homes with few belongings and are now sheltering under trees and in public spaces, waiting to register for assistance. Over 20,000 people have been newly displaced across the province in recent weeks, as attacks spread to areas previously considered stable.

One meal at a time.
One family at a time.
One refugee at a time.

High Commissioner @filippograndi.unhcr.org on why humanitarian diplomacy matters as he opens UNHCR #ExCom for the final time: www.unhcr.org/news/speeche...
"We must remain engaged. That is the value of humanitarian diplomacy.

To chip away at conflict: one meal at a time, one family at a time, one refugee at a time.”

~ Filippo Grandi, UN High Commissioner for Refugees

One million Syrians have now returned home from neighbouring countries.

A milestone of hope—yet millions remain displaced and urgent support is needed to make returns sustainable.

Asylum saves lives. No one should be sent back to a place where they are in danger.

Those fleeing war and persecution deserve safety—and when safe options exist, traffickers lose power. #UNGA

A world that protects refugees is a world that is safer, more stable and more just.

UNHCR stands with those forced to flee—today, tomorrow and for as long as they need us. This is our promise.

High Commissioner @filippograndi.unhcr.org urges leaders to seize this moment at #UNGA: choose peace over war and end the suffering of millions.

No refugee should ever be asked to pay for protection or help. UNHCR services are always free. Stay alert and spread the word.

UNHCR is prioritizing life-saving aid for 150,000 people:

➡️ Emergency cash and shelter support
➡️ Plastic sheeting for damaged homes
➡️ Water pumps and dykes to drain floodwaters

But resources are perilously low.
unhcr.org
Floodwaters have destroyed safe water sources and latrines, worsening sanitation.

The risk of disease outbreaks is growing on top of an ongoing cholera outbreak that has already infected thousands.
unhcr.org
The risk is rising fast.

If flooding continues, as many as 400,000 people could be displaced by year’s end—surpassing last year’s levels.

Women and girls face heightened protection risks as communities are cut off.

Rising waters have submerged entire communities.

Homes, schools, health centres, farmlands and livestock are under water—while food insecurity and conflict push families to the brink.

South Sudan is facing multiple crises.

Deadly floods have already displaced over 100,000 people—while renewed conflict leaves fragile communities exposed and aid stretched thin.

UNHCR with partners provides urgent support:

🔵 Cash assistance
🔵 Protection services
🔵 Relief items including thousands of tents in earthquake-affected areas

But restrictions on female UN staff in Afghanistan have forced suspension of vital operations.
