Welcome to the Bluesky page of United Impact, a group supported by Project 17. We are a group of people who meet regularly with one common objective, to create positive change, and call for the end of the ‘No Recourse to Public Funds’ policy.
The government released their 10 year strategy to tackle child poverty in the UK. We welcome that #NRPF is mentioned in it, but it shows a failure to end the condition, which leaves thousands of migrant children homeless and destitute ⬇️📽️

Today's Child Poverty Strategy leaves thousands of migrant children - 40% of all children in poverty - out in the cold.

Every child deserves the same chance to thrive.

Poverty is a political choice. The Govt's failure to act for all children falls short of the scale and urgency of the crisis.

Great to hear Rachel Reeves acknowledge that "there are many reasons why people choose to have children then find themselves in difficult times. The death of a partner. Separation. Ill health. A lost job. I don’t believe that children should bear the brunt of that."

So why should migrant children?

Our latest policy briefing on child poverty with Project 17 makes a clear recommendation: End #NRPF policies! Inadequate housing, food insecurity, lack of understanding children's experiences and emotional burdens are all consequences of bordering welfare.

Many of us have to pay £3908.50 per adult plus any solicitors fees, every 30 months, to renew our visas and pay the Immigration Health Surcharge.

Will you write to your MP to ask them to scrap the racist NHS charging policy?

We are very grateful to MP @kateosamormp.bsky.social
for submitting written questions to the Secretary of State for the Home Department in support of our campaign.

Migrants are living in extreme poverty due to immigration & health charging. This disproportionately affects racialised women.

We ask the government to equalise access to the NHS, and to treat everyone in the UK with dignity.

We ask the government to not discriminate as to who has the right to be healthy and safe, due to their background.

📢We believe that charging migrants to use the NHS, and for the Immigration Health Surcharge, is unjust and should be scrapped.

This policy is not humanely justifiable and leaves migrants in unsafe positions.

#NRPF must be scrapped. Our families are living in extreme poverty, plus high immigration costs & the rising cost of living. Our mental & physical health is greatly impacted.

💰 £3,029. That’s what it costs to apply for permanent residency in the UK. The actual processing cost? Just £646.
We’re calling for a fee waiver for those who can’t afford it. Email your MP today and ask them to back it.

The UK Home Office has increased visa fees again, which affects our members. This means we'll have even less money to buy things our children need.

This film shows what many of our members with no recourse to public funds are going through. Our families are suffering with poor accommodation, black mould is causing our children to go to hospital, we are facing food poverty, and bad mental health.
