That's why we're proud to co-sponsor, alongside the Prosper CA coalition, AB 1690 by Asm. Ahrens to ensure even more CA families can access the Young Child Tax Credit.

211 connects millions of Californians each year to housing, food, child care, and other resources. State and local government relies on 211 to support communities through crisis, but California doesn't provide ongoing funding for 211.
February 17, 2026 at 6:30 PM
Communities urgently need continued access to 211 services, and 211 urgently needs state support to address Californians’ ongoing, emerging, and disaster-related needs.

We met with over 50 legislative offices to advocate for our sponsored priorities: AB 1690 (Ahrens) to expand eligibility for the Young Child Tax Credit and a budget request for an additional $5M for Free Tax Preparation Assistance and Outreach & Education programs. @asmmarkgonzalez.bsky.social

We are committed to to ensuring everyone—including ITIN filers—can access tax credits like the CalEITC, Young Child Tax Credit, and Foster Youth Tax Credit that help maximize refunds and keep dollars in local economies. Free filing options are available at MyFreeTaxes.org

CA United Ways played a key role in establishing the CalEITC, one of the most powerful tools for reducing poverty in our state. This CalEITC Awareness Week, we celebrate progress and the role of these critical tax credits in helping work toward a California where all can thrive.

Tax credits are the most effective tool we have to combat poverty and help families afford basic necessities. The CalEITC, Young Child Tax Credit, and Foster Youth Tax Credit put more than a billion dollars back in working Californians' pockets each year.

We believe that every Californian—regardless of race, ethnicity, or immigration status—should have access to the resources and opportunities they need to thrive.

Tax credits combat poverty and help families afford basic necessities. In 2026, eligible households can receive up to $8,046 with the federal Earned Income Tax Credit (#EITC), and more is available through the Child Tax Credit and state credits.

Voting within a week of Election Day? It’s best to use a ballot drop-off box or vote in person at a vote center. If you mail your ballot, go inside the post office and ask to have it hand-stamped to ensure it’s postmarked by November 4.

More than 1 in 3 California households are not able to earn enough income to make ends meet. That shouldn't just concern those who fall below this threshold; it should concern *all* Californians. Because, as the late Paul Wellstone said, "We all do better when we all do better."
