@b0rk Yeah, I love reading about and talking about Git's data model, and thinking about how to onboard new users.

@ai6yr You have to start before the age of 31, because it requires intensive training and early retirement, so they want to make sure they get enough years out of you before retirement.

@glyph I mean, to be fair, I worked on tools, mostly for asset management and storage, but I didn't actually work in production.

So I have a better than average idea of how folks used tools, but I am not directly an expert on production.
unlambda.hachyderm.io.ap.brid.gy
@glyph I worked in digital media and film production tooling for a while.

There are enormous libraries of effects available, with a lot of parameters.

Of course, at the very highest end people build custom effects out of primitives, but a lot of people just reach for off the shelf effects and […]

@glyph They're common enough that people call all kinds of digital artifacts "buffering" even if they don't really know what a buffer is; they just know that when the stream gets interrupted it's "buffering."
unlambda.hachyderm.io.ap.brid.gy
@glyph Most of them are buying a pack of aftereffects plugins without thinking too hard about it.

@aburka Luckily those bots actually link back to the source which describes why they're used: https://github.com/tante/hype

"For smaller instances the local timeline is rather empty. This is why trends simply do not work on those instances: There is just not enough activity. Instead of manually […]

@ai6yr @t3rminus I was trying to look for this in a different way, by seeing if I could that Season's in a phonebook.

Turned out to be much harder than I was expecting. Finding digitized phonebooks from that era is spotty. And of course LA was too big to have […]

@BunnyMama @keith Yeah, we also used a baby shampoo for this purpose.
unlambda.hachyderm.io.ap.brid.gy
@keith @BunnyMama Oh, right, one thing I forgot to mention: after she'd lost most use of her hind legs, I would have to periodically hold her up and apply pressure to her belly to help her pee; that helped her out a lot.
unlambda.hachyderm.io.ap.brid.gy
@keith @BunnyMama Yeah, that was my experience with Rowan; she didn't have any kind of precipitating incident, but it was a very quick decline, then she stabilized for a while but without the use of her legs.
unlambda.hachyderm.io.ap.brid.gy
@BunnyMama @keith Yeah, that sounds very familiar; gentle butt baths with gentle hair drying afterwards. Metacam is another name for Meloxicam, I believe; and Rowan really took to it, it seemed to help her out a lot.

I miss her so much, she was such a sweet bunny. And while that last year was […]

@keith I've had to deal with this with an elder bun. Unfortunately, I'm not sure how much I have to offer; it was mostly something that progressively got worse until she couldn't use her hind legs at all.

What we did:

* Meloxicam for pain management, she really appreciated her Meloxicam
* […]

@kenwhite.bsky.social Who needs "data" when you're a warfighter?

He was personally bothered by all these "rules of engagement" that hobbled his fighting ability! That's all a warfighter needs; a feeling. That he should be able to shoot whoever he wants without "rules of engagement" getting in […]

@projectgus @voided I think I've only used the released version; 3.1 is the version i have right now.

I wouldn't say I'm such an expert that I've had to have the latest features in the dev version; I've tried it out, designed some parts with it, and found it much simpler to get started with and […]

@voided For relatively simple use cases, you should also try SolveSpace. It's not nearly as full featured as FreeCAD, but I find that for the use cases that it covers, it's much more intuitive and easier to learn, and doesn't crash as much as FreeCAD.

Whee. Don't you love when you're trying to make a screen recording of one issue to report it. You reproduce the issue, great!

Then you go back and watch the screen recording, and the recording just starts completely glitching out and you can't see the issue because the screen recording got […]

@ai6yr Hmm. Looking at the Wikipedia article for Cesium-137, it sounds like there was a large amount of it that went missing in Thailand a few years ago, suspected of being sold for scrap metal: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caesium-137 […]

@jbcrawford @mattblaze Yeah, my money is that it's just a garden variety black market/grey market SIM-as-a-service operation, used for a variety of different things. Mostly spammy, scammy, fraudy (robocalls, texts, racking up ad impressions, AI scraper bots that are hard to block), some […]

@mattblaze My bet is the whole "foreign government" thing is just massively overblown; that it was just a black market or grey market "US cell number as a service", used by various bad actors. It sounds like they were caught when investigating swatting calls against public officials, which would […]

@twipped @ai6yr Yeah, I can't really think of many legitimate use cases for these.

For a few very specialized use cases, like load testing a cell network, I could see them, but almost all of the other use cases I can think of are basically for scamming purposes. Otherwise, why wouldn't you just […]
