All that said, it's meaningful to point out that this is an offhand joke poking fun at the silliness of the Shaaloani narrative in line with all of the other "Mamdani gonna implement Sharia law" jokes, and not intended to be a serious critique of FF14's creators.

At the risk of belaboring the joke, I'm not trying to imply that the Shaaloani narrative is comically bad b/c it's Japanese writers doing a spaghetti western.

It's bad b/c it's very, VERY poorly done AND is out of step with the rest of the expansion's narrative, not b/c of who is writing it.
