The developers designed a bunch of cool, powerful spells (this game has a fire tempest equivalent) and a super engaging mana system, and then made the game actively hostile to spellcasting as a play style. You can only equip one spell at a time and the only way to swap spells is to pause the game.

If you try to cancel a weapon skill or spell with a dodge, the next time you go for a parry you will stab yourself to death because the button combinations make no sense

If you like it, I can also recommend Walkaway by the same author. It's much more sci-fi but the core theme of building an alternative to capitalism is still there. Also everyone has silly hacker names, one characters is called Iceweasel.
