Being anti-Indigenous is the only fully acceptable form of bigotry in the US down to the societal level. No other group of people have racist caricatures as sports team and high school mascots. To do so without minorities would be considered unthinkable. But anything goes when it comes to us.

Omg right "I'm occupying your land, and I know that now because someone did a land acknowledgement - I didn't realize it was *all* stolen. I won't learn your actual tribe name but that's not been mandated by this department at my university yet. Why are you not praising me?"

One time at a conference some dude got upset about a land acknowledgement and cornered me to grill me about it (because my shirt said "Indigenous") and he made me miss the lecture I went to the whole thing for, even after I tried to excuse myself several times.

It also tends to put a target on those of us who are actually Indigenous for people who disagree with land acknowledgements or who see them as a way to perform how woke they are to come and pull us into conversations we may not be interested in having.
