I’m a trance=eyes closed guy a lot of the time. But I have used eyes open trancing much like you describe. As a convincer for myself that trance is more dynamic and flexible than assumed and definitely as a part of a fractionation session. “Are you sure you’re not in trance now?” sorts of games

And I haven’t necessarily settled on anything final yet, I think I like to approach that topic from somewhere like:

First: hypnosis is not magic. You always have a say in the goings on. You can’t be coerced into doing anything any easier than when you’re drunk, high, horny, etc.

I feel like the prevalence of that phrase is the hypno community still pushing against 100 years of pop culture sensationalized depictions of evil hypnotists. Svengali, Manchurian Candidate, insert any Saturday morning cartoon’s hypno villain.

And in the hypno context you're sort of back where you started, waiting for hypnosis to happen TO you, just with extra steps.

I agree with this whole heartedly and in fact this point here was on my mind while reading the rest of the thread. While I like "fake it til you make it" as a phrase (love a pithy rhyme), in any context, not just hypno, its an alright starting point but then quickly can lead to imposter syndrome...
