Happy #WorldSpaceWeek - an excuse to keep celebrating the 10th anniversary of the first direct detection of gravitational waves!

Our scientists played key roles in the field, including the development of the LIGO detectors' mirror suspensions, which enable detections.

Happy #WorldSpaceWeek!

Did you know that Dr Gilles Bailet is developing a 3D printing technology that will work in zero gravity, enabling in-space manufacturing and recycling?

He tested it in microgravity in @esa.int flights

What is the worst idea in human history? In this TEDx talk, Professor Todd Ehlers, head of @uofgges.bsky.social, makes a compelling case that burning fossil fuels to power our world was the worst mistake we ever made.

Happy #WorldHearthDay- a very difficult organ to image!

In the video you can see how our researchers used 3D microscopy to capture the growing hearts of zebrafish embryos - they were the first to do this while it beats.

This could give us insights into the human heart.

Triboelectric Nanogenerators (TENGs) are energy harvesters that can turn motion into electricity. This paper is a guide on how to test them, so that results can be reliably compared across different laboratories. advanced.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10....
Surface topography influences TENG output via the real contact area: in this case (PVS in contact with Mica), power output is shown to decrease with increasing roughness (on the PVS) because of the corresponding decrease in real contact area shown in the optical images looking through the transparent Mica. Areal root mean square height Sq is varied from 1.5 µm (highest power peak) to 82.5 µm (lowest power peak).
