UW alum Mary Brunkow, ’83, won the Nobel Prize in Medicine this morning.
This photo was taken while she was on the phone with the Nobel Committee in Sweden. Mary said she initially missed the call because a strange number popped up on her phone — she thought it might be spam.

Cement is the 2nd most-used material on Earth after water and is one of the biggest contributors to greenhouse gas emissions.

Could Seaweed-infused cement help reduce concrete’s carbon footprint?

Three petri dishes containing seaweed samples sit on the table next to the molds. A researcher in safety glasses observes a small cement cube sandwiched between two metal discs in an industrial-looking machine.

“What we have seen in the past 15 years is the supersizing of the tech sector, and certain companies like Microsoft have been at the forefront. The bottom line is, how many people do these companies really need?" @margaretomara.bsky.social told @alexhalverson.bsky.social.
Behind Microsoft’s layoffs: A new attitude shaped by AI
More tech workers feel the pain as Microsoft pivots. Suddenly, the world's most valuable company is going on without them.

Update: Amanda Moll is making it seriously hard to keep up with her record-breaking! 😅
Just hours after our previous post, Amanda broke her record AGAIN (that's now the fourth time she's broken her own record, for those counting), this time clearing 16-1.25 (4.91-meters). 🤯

UW athlete Amanda Moll made NCAA history! She’s the first college athlete ever to clear 16 feet (4.88m) in pole vault. She joins an elite group — only three other American women have ever gone this high, and those other athletes are all Olympic medalists.
