Also growing up in Arlington Heights the same age as Zombo was former Wilco band member Jay Bennett. He played multiple instruments with Wilco from ‘94-‘01. He suffered a hip injury stage diving, and later overdosed on painkillers and died in ‘09 at the age of 45. #hockeycards

Also born in Noranda in 1960 was actress Anne Dorval. She has won numerous awards as the lead in Xavier Dolan films “I Killed My Mother” (‘09), and “Mommy” (‘14). She is also a prominent French dubbing actor including Doris in Finding Nemo (‘03). #hockeycards

January 18, 1990, Melanie Appleby of the UK pop duo Mel and Kim died. In 1987 Mel and Kim had just filmed the music video to their #1 hit “Respectable” when Mel was hospitalized for paraganglioma a form of liver cancer. Mel died a few years later at the age of 23. #hockeycards

St. Albert is named for St. Albert of Lovain. He was unpopularly named Bishop of Liège at the age of 24 by Pope Celestine III. To strengthen his position Albert had the Pope to elevate him to Cardinal, angering his opponents who hired assassins to kill St. Albert. #hockeycards

Leukemia is a group of blood cancers that usually start in bone marrow. It has been romanticized in 20th-century fiction as a joy-ending, clean disease whose innocent victims die young or at the wrong time. An example being the novel and movie Love Story (‘70). #hockeycards

The name rhinoceros means nose horn in Ancient Greek, but the horn is not bone but keratin-like hair. They use their dung piles to send messages, mark territory, and share info with other rhinos. Rhinos can run up to 40 mph, and a group of them are called a crash. #hockeycards

Duke comes from dux, a military commander for a Roman province under the rule of emperor Diocletian. The first English dukedom was the Duke of Cornwall, nicknamed the Black Prince for his black plate armor and black heraldic shield with 3 ostrich feathers. #hockeycards

Also born in 1958 and from Scarborough is actor Michael Wincott. Known for his raspy voice, and often playing villains. He’s most known for the villain in The Crow, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, and Strange Days. Most recently he was the cinematographer in Nope. #hockeycards

NHLPA Hockey ‘93 included blood on the Sega Genesis as opposed to the censored SNES version. Many Sega titles included gore that led to US Senate hearings and the current rating system. Mortal Kombat for Sega had a code that enabled blood and uncensored fatalities. #hockeycards

While the area of Scotland has different origins, a fife is also a small, high-pitched flute similar to a piccolo. It originated in Medieval Europe, and its shrill sound made it used in outdoor military bands and signalling, but now mostly replaced by the bugle. #hockeycards

Edina comes from Edinburgh, a poem that Scottish poet Robbie Burns wrote. Burns’ most famous line is “the best laid schemes of mice and men, go oft awry and leave us nothing but grief and pain, for promised joy!” which John Steinbeck then used for his 1937 novella. #hockeycards
