Last week, I went to Singapore's Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA)'s exhibition on the 2025 Draft Master Plan. Here are my thoughts, in a thread so please read it all 🧵

Today, I visited the Cross Island Line Project Information Centre to learn about Singapore's newest MRT Line. The Cross Island Line is a massive S$40B+ endeavour with lots worth talking about, with 6-8 car trains and an east-west route bypassing the city.🧵

Took a visit to the Cross Island Line Phase 2 Project Information Centre, got to see a model of the Tunnel Boring Machine, and what Clementi Station would look like (lots of rebuilding imminent)

Went to the Upper Serangoon Shopping Centre (USSC). Built in 1982 by Hong Huat Timber, it was envisioned as a vibrant retail hub serving as many as 500k, but now, it's a ghost town on its last legs.

As of ereyesterday, Punggol Coast Bus Interchange is open. The integration is amazing, the bus-MRT connection is entirely air conditioned and is connected seamlessly with the retail, a 2+ minute walk! (1/3🧵)

Was at the preserved Kawasaki/Nippon Sharyo C751B MRT train hotel at one-north last month. Somehow, the old smell is preserved. I really miss this train

Recently, NTWU (Singapore's bus driver union) had a special bus serving free coffee, which I went to. This bus has lots of bus-related memorabilia and stories about the Union...(please read thread)

Our new Transport Minister, despite being a newcomer MP, seems to have lots of experience working in the Ministry of Transport, so I wish him all the best in his new role, and hope to see more progress with our transport network

After my concert at Sports Hub, instead of going to Stadium MRT, i decided to take the long way to Tanjong Rhu station, which is more worth, with stunning views of the Kallang Basin and Kenzo Tange's Indoor Stadium, and ofc is less crowded. Nice bridge too

Pardon my shaky camera

Just wanna say thank you to the SMRT staff for handling the heavy traffic at Stadium Station, as two concerts are being held in the same night (1/3)

Since the concept art for Changi Airport Terminal 5 has been released and it looks amazing, here's the concept art for Changi Airport's Terminal 2, from the Public Works Department Annual Report 1989

Changi Airport Terminal 5 was originally planned with two entirely different layouts in 2013. The current layout was finalised two years later, with an emphasis on efficiency for passengers

Visited Serangoon Gardens for the first time. I love how there's a roundabout, and calm traffic, with zebra crossings. But the pavements and walkability can see improvement.

Also like how the bus stop goes contraflow to the roundabout and serves buses in both directions.

Went to (the old) Pasir Ris Bus Interchange on Friday, for the first time. I absolutely love the arches in the original interchange and im sad theyre gone. Pasir Ris Interchange has moved to the all-new TOD next door as of this morning... 🧵(1/2)

I went to Pasir Ris Mall in June 2024, then Singapore's newest Transit Oriented Development, and I love it. Here is a thread of pics, please read the alt texts, 🧵

(This tweet was made in June 2024 and the area has since been more complete)

Geneo is nothing short of amazing, its environmentally sustainable, being open and wow, WOODEN PILLARS! And the best part? Its directly linked to the subway to Kent Ridge MRT station, no need to get to ground level

my thoughts on the CCL proposed signage. it's a bit odd that the design doesn't give you general directional info (clockwise/counterclockwise) except on the arrival screens, and even then it's absent for "non-loop" (Dhoby Ghaut branch) trains. hopefully they fix that before final release

Good, now do this all year round

(And rent control so prices can be lowered)

In September, I went to New Bahru and...I am so disappointed by what would have been interesting: converting an abandoned school into a community hub 🧵

In 1988, JICA proposed Peoplemovers for Ang Mo Kio and Simpang (a never built neighbourhood), this is probably the predecessor to what would be Singapore's controversial LRTs. The system is inspired by the Kobe Portliner, Miami Metromover, Yukarigaoka Line and even H-Bahn

The original National Stadium plan from 1966, planned for the 1972 SEA and 1974 Asian Games. The plan was downgraded due to costs, and the 1974 Asiad was moved to Tehran.

It even has a monorail going to what looks like Paya Lebar and Golden Mile!

The best thing about NEL is that they have lots of good transit-oriented development.
Central(Clarke Quay),The Atrium@Orchard(Dhoby Ghaut), Sengkang TC
This is bcos they take inspiration from MTR,The 96 White Paper mentioned Tsing Yi as an example...(1/2)

Saw this meme going around lately, so I made one for SG
This is just a meme, ofc there are more things than public housing in the heartlands. And the public housing thankfully has been way less cookie cutter than before the 90s

Today is the 37th anniversary of the "Official Opening" of the MRT, which then PM LKY officiated with the completion of Phase 1 of the Initial System (YCK to Clementi)
