Let us pray.

This is the Urban Monastic Collect for the twenty-seventh week of Ordinary time.
Almighty and everlasting God, shower blessings on those seeking You in prayer. Out of Your inexhaustible love, You give to them beyond their merits and desires. † Pour Your mercy upon us * that our consciences may be freed from worry. More than we ask for or imagine, You give to us through our Lord Jesus Christ. Your Son, who lives and reigns in unity with You and the Holy Spirit. God, now and forever.
Amen.

We held our monthly online gathering this evening for October. Join us to pray Vespers, partake the Eucharist and a wonderful conversation from a chapter of our way of life. It’s a great hour together.

A prayer for the next Archbishop of Canterbury. 🙏
Almighty and everlasting God,
the only worker of great marvels,
send down upon your servant Sarah,
called to be Archbishop of Canterbury,
and all who are committed to her care,
the spirit of your saving grace,
and that they may truly please you,
pour upon them the continual dew of your blessing.
Grant this, O Lord,
for the honour of our advocate and mediator,
Jesus Christ.
Amen.

May the Lord bless Dame Sarah Mullally, the Archbishop of Canterbury designate, as she leads the people of God. God bless the Church, God bless all people, and may God's love and mercy continue to sustain creation.

This was one of the beautiful things @vgaudrat.bsky.social said when we were together on Lérins Island this week.

"This isn't a monastery on an island.
The monastery is the island."

It is similar for us.
Urban Monastics doesn't have a monastery in the city.
Our monastery is the city.

I took this photo this morning after praying vigils with the brothers at Lérins Abbaye (and my dear friend @vgaudrat.bsky.social) . It wasn’t yet 6am, and the sun wouldn’t rise until 7:15. This is only lit by the moonlight. The shutter was open for a minute to capture enough light… 1/2 🧵

I continue to stand by the words and posture of chapter 26 of the @UrbanMonastic.org Way of Life.

“Each one of us is a child of God: a God who is love. Each one of us is called by God to be People of Peace. Peace is not built or sustained through violence, or the threat of violence...
Reject Violence and Do not Kill - From Our Way of Life - Urban Monastic
Throughout the history of monasticism, our ancestors have not fought. They rejected violence, even when it meant their own death. The monastic tradition we are a part of is unwavering in its rejection...

We prerecorded this last Sunday and it was awesome. Check it out when it goes live on YouTube!

I’m regularly broken, humbled, and changed by God’s abundant grace. It’s the foundation of Monastic life (together with loving God). Our convo was so good we went long for the first time ever.
