twisting, twining: July 15-20, 2025

Three weeks until we chill beneath the trees at Raymore Park and welcome vocal artists, dancers and makers for six magical evenings by the river!

Every time it rains, I bump into this retired Portuguese gentleman at the park. I'm out gathering garlic mustard while he's looking for brown-lipped snails. It's a lot of work for a meal, but he says he has lots of time.

twisting, twining (2025)

Balance and flow down by the river. Excavating layers of park history. From shale to brick and asphalt. A reminder of the houses that used to stand here until Hurricane Hazel washed them away in 1954.

Down by the river: 40 or more chicks; harvesting fresh dog-strangling vine* and testing out fibre processing methods.
Smush, crush, smear, shape. Waiting for the sunshine to do its magic.

twisting, twining (2025)

“We made a thing!” Working with last year’s dog strangling vine – a pesky non-native that smothers and covers understory plants. Stomping plant stems to soften before twisting into rope. Made a snake. Met a snake!

twisting, twining (summer 2025)

Getting to know our neighbours at Raymore Park where we’ll be launching a new community-engaged project this summer beside the Humber / Cobechenonk river.

Today, meet the coyotes!
