It may just be my algos, but I see more people complaining about the conflation of ICE and local law enforcement than I see the actual occurrence of that conflation.

Based on your bio I assumed you were born in MN, but good for you that you stayed even after experiencing that harsh of cold.

At its worst, local policing is more than worthy of defunding if not abolition. Thankfully, local control and other accountability measures ensure that all police aren't run like ICE. Citizens, statutes, and civil liberties orgs save us from police. www.aclu.org/news/smart-j...

That was my one contention with how South Park covered ICE this season. They should have made the rank and file officers much less sympathetic figures.

You’ve also become a punching bag onto which BlueSky users can express their frustrations with Dem messaging and comms.

Warmongering Democrats are really showing themselves with this one, from WaPo to Josh Gottheimer.

I agree, but since 2015 the gatekeepers in Republican politics are mostly the loudest and proudest racists. It’s not the ones who make some jokes at a lunch table in passing it’s the ones who make racism their career project.

I think anyone standing up to ICE deserves some recognition, so more power to her

It’s not the dunk you think it is to show he lost by ~600 votes in a very competitive 3 way race.

Ironically, this is very effective campaigning because IL-9 is a safe-blue seat.

If you can’t differentiate yourself on policy, this makes for great earned media even if the charity work isn’t the most effective resource allocation.

Kat Abughazaleh is running in a safe seat, where the Dem primary will effectively decide the House race.

Unfortunately, 4chan and kiwi farms have infected online etiquette past the point that moderation can functionally solve.

The solution is just to block and/or dunk on the trolls. You can’t have a systemic solution to people being mean.

I get the issue that Stancil and EAII are highlighting, but moderating the haters away will create more problems than it’s worth imo.

Social media is a mean place. We will never get back to what I understand to be ‘2000s forum culture’ at the scale of Twitter or Facebook.

He's also at a disadvantage for being a Hindu of Indian descent. A sizeable plurality of MAGA is just openly racist toward Patel and they make no effort to hide it.

Fuentes is a pseudo-intellectual manchild, so I understand the instinct to infantilize him.

I wish anti-semitism was merely an issue of religious bigotry. But people find secular reasons to justify their irrational hatred of Jews all the time.

Likewise for Islamophobia, as Christian Arabs in America will tell you.

Thank you for speaking up about mental healthcare access. I feel like this is an issue that is solely deployed by cynical defenders of the status quo who have no opposition to the gun lobby.

Coming from you, the message doesn't ring hollow for once.

I love when the right co-opts a phrase like “rootless cosmopolitan” that was explicitly created in tsarist Russia as an anti-Western slur, before being repopularized by Stalinists as an anti-Jew and pro-communist slur.

I can’t wait until MAGAs start calling each other gringos too.

Trips for Hill staff concern me more, because that contributes to propagandizing a random Ed, Science, or Ag staffer who otherwise might not have incentive to look into the human rights issues.

This year, Israel will account for nearly one-quarter of all free travel gifted to Congress members, and AIPAC is overwhelmingly setting the agenda.
