A hearing was held in Oneida County Court on Tuesday to determine whether or not the Utica Police Department violated the privacy of former Oneida County Sheriff’s deputy Aaron Alshaman when he was brought in for questioning for arson.

Did Utica Police have authority to search former deputy Alshaman's phone?
Utica Police Investigator Mark W. Rahn testified at the hearing that he called Alshaman in for questioning after interviewing the victim, getting security camera footage from the neighborhood and requesting the Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) information on Alshaman's patrol car.
