I think it's to give you the ability to face different directions without moving to a different tile. Don't know why they implemented that.

Should be able to batch-rename them with bash pretty easily. Something like this maybe:

Wuk Lamat was great and I don't know why people don't like her. Honestly I was mostly just disappointed by the pivot to sci-fi halfway through the story.

And on the CRT-era consoles, there were huge differences in picture quality between devices and types of cables. Even if they were trying to take advantage of how the CRT affected the pixel art, they didn't know if you were going to be viewing over S-Video or composite or whatever else
