Just to make sure I have this straight, Uber Engineering have once again published an RSS feed but the only way that you can successfully fetch this XML-based RSS feed is to pass "Accept: text/html" as a header. Remind me why I'm even attempting to read their blog?

It's nearly Kawaiicon time! The badges are pretty hard to read but if anyone I know is also attending, I'm in all green: Green trousers and my dark green Halter hoodie. Not a work trip but I figure I might as well do some free advertising if anyone wants to learn more about it or apply for a job 😅

Is Perth just Blade Runner but steampunk? Watch as I find out this week

It seems that www.govt.nz will now prompt the user to fill out a captcha if they're unknown or seem malicious.

I was able to trigger it reliably by navigating to the site in a private window.

Cool, now presumably because of the infinite looping that Radware itself initiated, it has probably learned that my normal browser doesn't seem human and so I guess I can just never submit on bills from this laptop/IP address.

It's fine, I didn't even really want to engage with democracy anyway!

It seems the NZ Herald Budget show cropped their guest shot that originally included the host, probably because someone in the background was watching the NZ Herald Budget Show on their desktop

I've had a digital copy for years now but I finally picked up a physical copy for my bookshelf 🤓

As of just under an hour ago, the New Zealand Herald appears to have added the Internet Archive and Wayback Machine crawlers to its robots.txt file which is disappointing. This kills the ability to see what the frontpage looked like on any given day.

The latest edition in "Things I have never seen before": A NUL character being part of a query suggested by Google's auto-suggestion.

Also, highly recommend @kagi.com instead! I'm only using Chrome here because accessing G Suite at my workplace requires Chrome 😒

A quick (but technical) hack for anyone who wants to watch Parliament video on their Apple TV.

Open up Safari and once videos.parliament.nz has loaded up, sort your network tab and look for "jwPlayer.js"

Select "Create Response Local Override", make the changes shown and reload to enable Airplay 🙂

@openpolicy.bsky.social I was curious whether it was common for press releases to go out prior to the Beehive publications and it seems that it's not abnormal. Not all releases are media releases of course but some media releases may hit the media before Beehive's own feed it seems 🤔

I've gone down a rabbit hole and I've found myself reading a filing by the Met Police for regaining access to congestion charging ANPR cameras.

At one point, they basically say "In theory protesters could be dissuaded from exercising their rights but hardly any of them drive cars so it's fine"

Turns out that it may have been a fluke and Imperva is back to being aggressive

I created a gag slack channel at my workplace a few years and found this prediction that aged pretty well

This one was definitely just a fluke 😅 The workflow I had set up only runs once a day. I had actually meant to turn it off but needed a repo to test something unrelated and was surprised to see there was a change. How do you get pinged about the changes by the way? I figure there's a press release?

I'm starting to slowly scroll on this damn website and I told myself I wouldn't!

I already scroll more than enough as it is as a recovering bird website user.

Anyway, here's some light reading that arrived today from the Hard To Find Bookshop 🤓
