A recent VanSun column sparked fear over BC’s Heritage Conservation Act reforms. Let's look at the facts. The current system is broken for everyone—archaeologists, developers, & First Nations alike. The proposed changes are a pragmatic fix, not a radical NDP plot. (1/6) #BCPoli #BCHeritage #UNDRIP

It was her first visit to Yucatán 25 years ago, as an M.A. student, that sparked Dr. Mélissa Gauthier’s passion for ethnography.
Going back to the Yucatán peninsula for new research and teaching adventures has turned 2025 into a year to remember with both excitement and appreciation.
Mélissa kicked off the year doing fieldwork with UVic professor Alexandrine Boudreault-Fournier on Cuba’s migration by sea towards the Yucatán Peninsula. She also took a group of 19 anthropology students out of the classroom this summer as part of a new ethnographic field school co-organized with Professor Juan Castillo Cocom (Maya Intercultural University of Quintana Roo).
