Nurse Officers in U.S. Public Health Services have a wide-range of responsibilities, according to our study published in Nursing Outlook that describes this workforce, their roles, and the utility of “job function” questions for measuring the broader public health nursing workforce.

Navigators have been critical in supporting people in finding health insurance, but they've struggled with the low investment in their jobs/careers, hindering their progress. Rather than cut the program, more investments are needed. See 2 papers below diving into the issues...

In a press release about slashing Navigator funding by 90%, CMS notes that very few Marketplace enrollments are facilitated by Navigators: www.cms.gov/newsroom/pre... But Navigators are crucial for Medicaid enrollments. (Most brokers don't work with Medicaid, as they'd have to do it without pay)

In a survey & interviews with home care workers, our team heard about a number of benefits offered - often temporarily - during the pandemic. Unions played an important role in obtaining these benefits. Providing these benefits, including paid sick leave, is critical for health workforce retention.
