@JessTheUnstill it's incrementally more bananas as time goes on but we're bad at noticing that
@sundogplanets Kia ora! I'll be in Waterloo next term but spending one weekend in Regina in January. Enjoy your visit to Aotearoa. May it be less eventful than my 2020 sabbatical.
@kangaroo5383 @alessandro Canada, NZ I can speak to firsthand. But freedom is never given to us.
@chris it's not false that Trump made Carney very popular, but maybe not in the way that Trump intended
Just guessing that about 0 of the likes here are due to the Hipkins reference.
Sitting at my computer reading research papers and this bumble bee comes along and hangs out for a bit. #insects
A top/rear view of a bee through a window. It is, as one would expect, black and yellow striped. There is an orange bump near its posterior. The bee is manipulating some food, which is presumably why it hung out here for some minutes.
Spotted today in the Wellington Botanic Garden ki Paekākā before the rain:

1. mama paradise shelduck / pūtangitangi with a bunch of chicks (papa was nearby of course) #birdsnz
2. Chris Hipkins #nzpol

No points for guessing which of these is depicted in the picture.
A pretty rotund brown duck with a white head and chestnut brown, green, and white plumage, taking care of a number of floofy fuzzy brown and white chicks.
@Salty thanks; I'd heard rumblings about that. Am definitely not going to build my own NAS at this point.
@Salty i was thinking of getting a new Synology. The one that's here is a DS213. I do have a newer one, but it's not here.
@pezmico I did a not very detailed submission this time.
@futurebird I had this weird experience last week where I got an email on my work account from the Ville de Montréal about an impending tax sale on a property. That must be a scam right? I forwarded it to soc@, the expert IT staff, and they said "no it actually looks legit". I did look at it and […]

@JessTheUnstill I just almost never use video conferencing from my computer, which is indeed less convenient when screen sharing. I kind of don't believe screen sharing is useful most of the time anyway, especially in a meeting rather than a presentation. I'd rather open the document as a […]

Blossom Valley at Aston Norwood is impressive with many cherry blossoms right now. #birdsnz
A tūī hard at work on cherry blossoms. The black bird with a fancy pompom and lacing on the back of its neck is surrounded by pink cherry blossoms. A clump of pink cherry blossoms with bare branches out of focus behind. More pink cherry blossoms, this time in front of green bushes and red flowers.
@lizthegrey.com I have written so many submissions to this government about proposals I disagree with.
Back at the start of September I was flying into Gisborne. This boat plume looks... bad?
A boat in azure-blue water with a prominent grey plume trailing behind it.
@SimonCHulse @jackyan think there was something going on two days ago and our posts mostly didn't get out till the middle of the night somehow
@jackyan I suspect it's not just boredom but perhaps also terrible working conditions, if it's like in other countries.
@dvsk I do hope, though, that the FIF tax is replaced by a CGT or wealth tax. #nzpol
