Just another open source hacker.
I like writing code, but I also like reading code -- good code that I can hopefully learn from.

Which just means that reading LLM-generated choice is even worse for me than for people who hate doing it.

Hypothesis: being able to distinguish Denmark from Norway already counts as a sign of being a grownup.

I don't disagree with that, it's only that I still feel strangely satisfied because it could have been worse. Dumb just doesn't seem that bad right now.

Also, I (maybe naively) trust in Britain's capacity to protect fiber optic cables from eavesdropping in the center of London.

For some unfathomable reason, I rather appreciate governments respecting judicial decisions instead of invoking national security reasons as a blanket justification for their decisions, especially right now.

And yet absolutely not surprising.

Ideal would be to reverse engineer the communication protocol and avoid using their software in the first place (which has other problems/restrictions/features -- depending on your point of view). Unfortunately I suspect it's easier said than done.

Unfortunately, if you're diabetic and actually need a device of this kind, you're not exactly spoiled for choice.

It's not always true, but most often it is, as in: many Russian speakers (but not all) can distinguish between them (but not always).

For example, you could always hear a lot of Russian on the Paris streets, but its sound has completely changed since the beginning of the war.

This seems like a lot, but I wonder how does it compare to other countries?

Also did better than France!

Didn't the Economist urge Europeans to change jobs more often just recently?

So how many did you have to buy until you stopped being depressed? Asking for... well, quite a few people, actually.

For lack of any other ones...

Comment expliquez-vous qu'ils aient décidé de faire passer cette loi, avec des conséquences qui semblaient, pourtant, faciles a prévoir, et à un moment aussi critique?

BTW, I'm embarrassed to admit that I had initially seen your post on a phone which cut off the bottom of the screenshot and so didn't even see that Sonin has cited the same Schulman's post that I linked. Sorry!

> It's a kind of a reverse cargo cult — believing that white people's airplanes are also made of straw and shit, but they are just better at pretending that they work.
> And there is a special kind of pride in us being pure heart indigenous people incapable of faking it so well.

She did call it this, I've found the original (to the best of my knowledge) post: users.livejournal.com/-niece/12696...

I expect any LLM to be able to translate it, but see next post for my translation of the relevant part just in case:

FWIW this concept was formulated about 15 years ago by Ekaterina Schulman and is pretty well-known in the russian speaking part of the internet -- probably because it explains so much about modern Russia.

At least Russia seems to have quite a few of them, unfortunately: all kinds of artillery, glide bombs etc. Yet they still use (albeit optic fiber) FPV drones a lot.
June 26, 2025 at 3:14 PM
Very interesting, thanks for sharing! But one thing which remains unclear is why are the FPV drones used so much, by both sides, if they have do many drawbacks?

I don't know who they are, but certainly not ITALIANs, as they don't accept this word either.

No KD?

Nothing spoils a joke like taking it literally, but with all three May holidays falling on Thursday, it's definitely the shortest work month in France this year.
May 1, 2025 at 2:44 PM
What about: it either won't work or it will, and this will be much worse?

Astounding lack of belief in ManU. It's never too late to get some points deduced!
