I think what (personally) sells wonderland is that she's hopelessly lost and alienated in it.

No. Even in a 50/50 outcome of A noticing a preemptive strike, the rest of the fight would not play out well. Best option for B is a complete unforeseeable ambush, or to lure A into a trap unwittingly, even as bait. All warfare is based on deception.

I don't think it's a sin to have a "loud" ui/ux so long as it's not obstructive or severely inefficient.

We could also be hitting a post-modern phase of the design philosophy now. Not my forte though.
