Today, the Board of County Commissioners unanimously approved a resolution I sponsored urging the United States Congress to adopt Senate Concurrent Resolution 21 and House Concurrent Resolution 58, condemning socialism as a failed ideology. Socialism has brought devastation, repression, and suffering to millions around the world destroying economies, silencing freedoms, and forcing countless families, including many in our community, to flee their homelands in search of liberty and opportunity. Miami-Dade County is home to people who have lived through these regimes and understand firsthand the value of democracy, free enterprise, and individual rights. This resolution reaffirms our County’s strong support for those ideals and stands in solidarity with all who have suffered under socialist and totalitarian governments. I have long spoken out against socialism, and I remain committed to defending the freedoms and principles that make our nation and our community strong.
