Barovia, armed to the absolute teeth, ploughs into the rather unfortified Jarhanpur, which appears to be a Middle Eastern state. The Barovians seem to want to kill everyone in sight. Which countries, I ask Gunn, does he think viewers will believe are being alluded to here? “Oh, I really don’t know,” he says, quickly. “But when I wrote this the Middle Eastern conflict wasn’t happening. So I tried to do little things to move it away from that, but it doesn’t have anything to do with the Middle East. It’s an invasion by a much more powerful country run by a despot into a country that’s problematic in terms of its political history, but has totally no defence against the other country. It really is fictional.”

Reading old articles and discovered something surprising.
Sonny Liston - who at this point in 1962 was possibly the most hated black man in America and even rejected by the NAACP - was also openly accused of being a "subversive" for pointing out that he was getting screwed financially.
Poor guy.
But Mr. Liston was not to be drawn on boxing; he says that “newspaper writers ask you is the sun shining when they see the sun is shining,” by which he means that they labor the obvious. What he wanted to talk about was the money that he wasn’t getting. To secure the match, he said for possibly the one-millionth time since he started training, he had had to sign for twelve and a half per cent of the total receipts, whereas previous challengers, even the least worthy, had received twenty per cent. “Why?” he asked. “I’m de poorest—I need de morest.” This smacked of pure Marxism—“To each according to his needs”—and I feared that Liston was getting into pretty deep waters. (Following the fight, he got even more subversive: “The championship belong to all the people.” This implied public ownership of a valuable property.)
