For instance. The above mentioned gaming company could have posted a job role for a Portrait Artist and added ‘familiarity with AI tools’ as a requirement? No? Would like to hear more from fellow artists. Let’s talk.

Remember that AI art tools were trained based off the blood and sweat of thousands of artists WITHOUT their consent or any compensation. So the least we can do is offer job opportunities that atleast sound respectful to a human artist.

This will lead to a decline in specialised skills, quality, art authenticity, new innovative & experimental artstyles, job displacements, lack of conceptualisation skills due to over dependence on technology. This is quite horrifying for a human artist.

There is already a culture in gaming studios, atleast in India Where the art process is heavily critiqued by other verticals instead of giving the artists the space they need to create “Oh you disagree? We’ll just ask the ai to do it for us“ (translation: we don’t need you)

Big companies will stop hiring talented, experienced artists and instead choose to go with “ai prompters” straight out of school with a low pay. How convenient for multi million dollar companies?

Using ai blatantly for a specialised task and calling it an ‘Art role’ is quite honestly demeaning to thousands of artists and their craft. How will this affect game/production artists you ask? 👇🏽

But I think people forget that it’s important to use AI specifically as a tool and not as a replacement for an experienced artist. Isn’t this Digital art 101? control the tool/texture or the tool/texture will control your art.

I get that gaming companies are actively trying to add AI into their pipelines. As a Game artist myself, I understand how important it is to be educated of new tech and how tools can help game art tremendously. We are SO not new to using tools.

*Please note that I’m speaking specifically about digital, game, portrait, concept and production art here. *
