Some kind of weird bird thing? Horror films & literature; post-punk/goth; joyful cliché (they/them) 🖤
I love how they mash up some of the dialogue in that book and Red Harvest to create their own faux-20s slang.

I feel you may be missing valuable context.

One that he was karmically ill-equipped for?

I think 'working class' does work to describe people's conditions in our modern age the way I'm using them, but you can call it poverty if you like, if that means you'll have greater solidarity for people who work in the service industry, dead-end office jobs or call centres.

I'd conclude that we should learn to sideline cultural class signifiers and hold solidarity with those who are materially working class, including intersectional solidarity for marginalised identities within the working class.

Tldr This country is fucking stupid.
November 14, 2025 at 11:39 AM
This is why a multi-millionare peer like Lord Sugar can be described as 'working class' because his background and cultural affectations are coded that way.

What car you drive, shoes you wear, hobbies you have or what part of the country you're born in can all influence this, but crucially, this says nothing about your economic status.
November 14, 2025 at 11:39 AM
Secondly, as Glostermeteor here points out, the UK specifically has a very rigid *cultural* class system. This is detached from your actual economic status and is just a set of cultural signifiers attached to an identity.

sirens of titan got me to a place of peace with an inherently meaningless universe that i never thought i’d reach. slapstick got me to understand how important it is to apply your own meaning to things. how maybe that matters even more than an inherent meaning ever could.
