It's amazing how refactoring code (~copy-pasted blocks -> reusable functions, hand-unrolled loops -> for loops) can make it faster at the same time. Trust the compiler bro, it works!

Guess who just spent the whole day debugging a slab memory leak and in the end added a single break; line?

Thanks a lot to @ptesarik for noticing the leak happening!

With the current RAM prices, let me remind you of my solution from 2017 that unfortunately wasn't merged, but maybe it's time to revisit it? https://lore.kernel.org/all/[email protected]/

The slab PR for 6.18 was followed by a hotfix PR for every rc except rc4 and final. It was never even close to that amount before. Let's hope that under Satan's protection, the just merged 6.19 PR will do better.
So proud of my colleague @ptesarik - what a long way he's come (and all that barefoot!). From being offended by our excessive Satan shitposting, to sneakily praising him in a commit log, on the way to mainline in 6.19!

Just updated my Turris 1.0 to the latest TurrisOS 9.0.0, based on latest OpenWrt 24.10. The kernel went from 5.15 to:
Linux turris 6.6.116 #0 SMP Tue Nov 25 02:30:06 2025 ppc GNU/Linux
For a device from 2014 (that were given out for free) that's quite amazing, I must say.

TIL about slab rollers and now I want one.
Anyway, back to slab lollers, a.k.a. sheaves.

I went to pottery class today and opened by asking several of my classmates if they knew how to use the slab roller upstairs. Nobody did but everyone wanted to, so when the teacher got in I’m like “hey teach, do you know how to use the slab roller upstairs” and she’s like “no” (she’s a visiting artist who only got here a couple months ago so this is not very surprising) “but I’ve used a lot of different ones and I bet we can figure it out.” Me: “do you want to go on a Journey of Discovery?” Everyone: yes. YES. *cue sickos faces* so we all thunder up the stairs periodically shouting JOURNEY OF DISCOVERY and our teacher snags another person who uses the slab roller A Lot and this person gives us a very thorough lesson and demonstration and every so often someone else wanders through and asks what’s happening and we all go JOURNEY OF DISCOVERY at them and now everyone knows how to use the slab roller and honestly I cannot recommend this approach enough as a way to make learning new skills and life generally more exciting. #LifeHack
