Picked up our copy of the excellent new Bedfordshire avifauna at the launch event today. It is 31 years since the last was published and this is so much more. 500 pages and a superb job with all monies going to 2 reserves in the county. Get it now via the Bedfordshire Bird Club website.

Yes they probably are - I was just pointing one of the issues with Stigmella mines on Hornbeam

@ashwhiffin.bsky.social excellent film just now on Gardeners World. Great encouragement to enhance the biodiversity of sites
vc30moths.bsky.social
Round here in Beds it is probably under recorded but still scarce and we rarely find it.
vc30moths.bsky.social
Stigmella mines on Hornbeam can be problematic at Stigmella carpinella is one of the options and not identifiable without breeding through
vc30moths.bsky.social
It could be one of several species of Oak feeding Stigmella but you would need to see the larval.features along with various features of the mine to get to an id and sadly this mige is vacated
vc30moths.bsky.social
That would fit and not one we would have thought of. We will have dig in the literature.

Looks like it but this was on Hazel. Thanks for eliminating Sawflies for us though. I have someone else I can ask
vc30moths.bsky.social
Sadly not anything useable

Hi Entomological peeps. I am stuck on an id even to genus of this larva on Hazel in The Burren Co Clare Ireland from early September. @gmtord.bsky.social @naturespotter.bsky.social
vc30moths.bsky.social
Hi bee people. Is this id to species please? B terrestris or lucorum or not splittable? Location north coast of County Clare Ireland early September @bexcartwright.bsky.social @bumble-being.bsky.social
vc30moths.bsky.social
Hi moth people. We are stuck on an id for this larva found on a Sea Aster stem on the north coast of County Clare West Ireland 2 weeks ago and would value any suggestions of the id. It looks like it should be in Geometridae... @rlewington2.bsky.social @gmtord.bsky.social #TeamMoth

A nice find by Melissa this evening was a Wormwood larva on Mugwort. Only the 2nd time we have found this cryptic species. #TeamMoth

To all moth trappers out there Do you have any humerous stories regarding moths and moth trapping?any mishaps/memorable moments etc. I did hear of a trap getting hit by lightning once?My father is writing a book and he wants to include some quirky moth elements into a short fictional story #teammoth

.... Extra is that Melissa was with me and was gutted to miss my falling in! She was also there the other time I fell in the river. She and our friend were chatting, heard a plop and said where is Andy?!!!

2 of 2.... my shout and could just see my face above the water and pulled me out. Said to me what about your camera? (In a belt pouch) Opened it and said it's dry until I took the camera out and found it half full of stinky water!. Drove home in pants and fleece with a v marshy whiff.....

1 of 2 I had previously from when we were out with the Herts recorder in a marsh. Clearing up.I had a live 240v 4 gang extension in my hand when I stepped off the bund into the marsh. Threw the 4gang onto dry land as I fell. The recorder heard my shout, arrived and pulled me out.....

Once as we were clearing up from.a public event I wandered away from the lamp and sheet to tip a wasp out of a pot. Didn't bother with a torch and stepped off the edge of a bridge falling 10 fee or so into a shallow river. V wet and a lot of bruises in the morning from hitting the stony bottom!
