The Great Yuan was a rather special country in history. The Mongol Empire conquered China under Genghis Khan, and upon the empire's division, the Yuan dynasty became its Chinese successor state. It was a Mongol dynasty ruling majority Han China, which over time adopted more and more Chinese culture.

Apparently the old Turkic, Kyrgyz and Uyghur Khanates all had very similar extents at their prime, and more or less the same core region as the famous Mongol Empire.
