Thank you for the best laugh I've had in ages!

So, if we have to put Ovidian poems in boxes (like 'male' vs 'female') we are much better, imho, making those boxes about genre. I'm not saying that "identifying as pale elegiac lover" is a useful gender in terms of analysis ...

... but also, honestly, I'm not *not* saying that.

We're about to start building our passive house and it has shocked me how few builders are familiar with it and any energy saving/ smart home techniques. None of the big franchises will even do uPVC windows, which seems pretty basic.

It's election year, so I highly recommend reading Charlotte Grimshaw's novels The Night Book and Soon. You can get them as a pair published together, entitled The Bad Seed.

Oh that's so good! That calendar sat in my letterbox untouched for a couple of weeks until I finally asked my husband to bin it for me. I really don't like getting fascist propaganda in my letterbox.

Can you imagine how many billboards she'll have. The number of ACT local board signs were ridiculous last year.
January 31, 2026 at 11:19 AM
Oh! I didn't realise she had... that made me laugh but then quickly cry about how bad my electorate is 😒
January 30, 2026 at 10:13 AM
Yup but not my MP, which would help my blood pressure because I wouldn't see her giant billboards all over the electorate. There's always a meeting that she's advertising.

Yes!! The worst bit is that when I finally get through to my parents, they forget the whole conversation a day later. There should definitely be some sort of cognition test after a certain age in order to be able to vote.

Dear god, it's like trying to explain to my elderly parents why they shouldn't vote for Winston Peters. You can say anything you like but it falls on deaf ears because, for them, it's all about vibes.

Exactly what I was thinking. She could change her priorities to cut pay equity but her priorities are more important than fighting modern slavery. Ugh 👿

I don't get PHEVs. I know people get them because of range anxiety but you get all the maintenance of a petrol car, the pollution and little saving. What I love about owning an EV is how little maintenance is needed. And if Nats has put in the charging network they promised PHEVs wouldn't be needed.
January 29, 2026 at 3:35 AM
Yup. And affordable second hand EVs too.
