They/them for someone whose pronouns aren’t they/them is used for avoidance. For the uninformed it’s useful for avoiding misgendering them on accident. For the informed, it’s being used to avoid using the person’s pronouns.

Exactly this. I think the most eye opening moment I’ve had in my life is when my dad talked to me about the “danger of knowing too much.” He said “if God wants us to understand things, He will reveal it Himself.” That was the last day I tried to discuss politics with him.

The current lie is that we’re dangerous. They don’t understand why we are, just that we are. A threat to their status quo, a threat to their safety. The people they trust said so, and that’s all that matters.

As someone that lives with some of the proponents of these beliefs. They’ve been lied to for long enough that all it takes is someone daisy chaining a new lie onto their strongly held beliefs based on lies means that even suggesting a problem with it is an insult to their parents’ parents’ parents.
