The media at large, and negative attention for the party for letting Engler run.

The media loves to ignore NDP unless they can highlight something they think will make them look bad.

Engler is normy rage-bait personified and you know the average journo here wouldn't pass up the opportunity

I think the establishment of the NDP is so timid that even the shadow of valid criticism is enough to make them take the cowardly road.

Yet they are never afraid to stand ten toes strong on their bad decisions.

My hope is, though they had the power to stop Engler, Avi is too organized to thwart

If the party is worried about the negative attention Engler is going to bring, why wouldn't they be equally worried about it from his EXPLICIT proxy candidate?

Your pizza is negative attention, and they don't care who serves it.

His team has spent a lot of time trying to discredit Avi, who is inarguably the most left candidate approved to run.

Engler sticks to his principles but his tactics are 🐕‍🦺💩 and self defeating

Mugyenyi only applied to run after Engler was denied and explicitly stated that she would withdraw if the party reversed its decision on Engler.

Why would you let an explicit proxy candidate for someone you denied run? Would defeat the purpose of denying the person in the first place, I would think

From others I have engaged with, we seem to be in common company

His recent guilty verdict, however, is absolutely egregious.

Just incredible overreach which will have long lasting effects on organized advocacy campaigns.

I genuinely don't know how I feel about the ruling to deny Engler the opportunity to run.

My instinct would be to let him, but he is problematic so I understand why you would want to avoid the distraction.

I know he faces false accusations, but there ARE legitimate things to be concerned for.

Also, I left the party because of the establishment shenanigans and only came back to support @avilewis.ca

I know the backroom choices are the exact problem, but Avi seems to have a real chance for change

I was surprised to find I liked other candidates too though, particularly Tanille Johnson.

Depends if you agree with the denial of Engler in the 1st place

Personally, I would've been for letting him run but I understand why a party wouldn't, even without bad intent

He still has a tweet up stating "80% of world Jewry supports the genocide" with no credible evidence to back it up for ex.

My point wasn't that there is a proxy bylaw, simply the claim that she is a proxy candidate is valid. Something for which your article seems to imply the opposite.
February 3, 2026 at 12:49 AM
With respect, that isn't just an acknowledgement of running after but an explicit offer to rescind her candidacy if they reversed the denial of Engler's.

That seems pretty material to claims of proxy 🤷‍♂️

Literally a white supremacist. Putin still sucks, but we don't have to glaze white nationalists.
