I think this is about pragmatism. Much as I loathe the current cowering terrified BBC, to apologise puts him on the back foot. They have admitted an error (I agree it wasn't). Part of his desperate flailing is to distract from vote on Tues. Whatevs, govt must back BBC and we must not cave.

all you say is true, it was grim, partic if you were a young girl. Otoh we had no social media and a largely compliant press so had very little idea of what was really going on so did not suffer from permanent anxiety which now besets many of us.

It's muddled "balance" idea which is a major contributor. The fact that Farage, a minor MEP, was give as much airtime as the Chair of the CBI/Gov Bank/economists in the runup to Brexit. Uneven coverage of Gaza, declining in Int News coverage, endless focus on individuals, 2 GBNews execs on Board.
