We even have an unpopular war that we just got out of and some political assassinations. New American cars are even boring and uncompetitive like they were in the Malaise Era.

It will be a long hard road to get stable again, but I think it's possible. I can't be a Doomer and despair is the enemy.

Bear with me here. I don't think this is the End of America or we are heading towards a civil war. Things are bad, real bad, don't get me wrong. I'm not minimizing the news, but I honestly think we are in a 1960s-1970s-era again. Massive social unrest, weak/corrupt institutions, inflation, etc.

TikTok is such an insidious platform. It gives you EXACTLY what will get a reaction out of you. My feed is a lot of rage-bait car channels. I have a friend whose feed is all "TRUMP is coming to YOUR HOUSE to kill YOU with a GUN!!! SHARE NOW!!!"

Right, a lot of the problem can be solved with better public transit, but we all know how those conversations go. It's a difficult issue that requires a nuanced and measured response (again good luck on all that). It just scares me a bit when I see a kid flying down the road on an eBike w/o a helmet

My uncle met the real ED-209 at a Phish show in 1998. Really nice guy, super down to earth and surprisingly chill. ED-209 was in a hurry, so he didn't have time to say very much, but he was really friendly.

Maybe a hot take, but eBikes being completely unregulated is a little worrying. Giving anyone with an Amazon/Temu account access to what is essentially an electric moped doesn't seem like a good idea. Most eBikes can do between 25-30+ mph and giving that power to a child is a really bad idea.
