if you feel it's messing you up, step away. don't assume it's messing everyone up and you need to eradicate it because you caught a case of the feel-bads from something. go sit with that and think about why instead of pissing in everyone else's cheerios.

She had wandered too far.

In the manner of a child far too enthusiastic to complete a treasure hunt, the tiny white haired girl stood alone on one of the warping ridges, clutching a nightlight frond in one hand. She had been harvesting the glowing mushrooms along with her parents, her excitement blossoming the more of the alchemical ingredient she procured. It was a particularly difficult task that required keen fingers, and her skills were getting better.

Far from the lights of home, only the bioluminescence of the fungi around her lit her perch. Otherwise, deep shadows swallowed every distance, seemingly creeping towards her like claws.

Her eyes were keen, though not nearly as keen as her parents', and being away from their side was a rarity that doused the flames of excitement with the chill of reality.

"Da? Father?" She asked the darkness.

When silence responded, she swallowed harshly, before repeating her request a little louder.

But neither voice of safety responded. Something...

else did; a deep, guttural growl, a sharp trill, and snap, like the clacking of bone on bone. She nervously backed away from the noise, and cracked nightlight frond in half. The exposed core bled a radiant azure goo, expanding her field of vision. Shakily, she held up her nightlight like a torch.

Two milky white lenses glittered like tarnished coins in the light, each the size of her fist. A gnarled beak poked through the veil of darkness, dripping crimson from some fresh kill. As it towered over the child, its twin scythe like appendages scraped along the ground, splitting small stones as it approached.

She didn't scream. She couldn't. Instead, she backed away, slowly, each breath sharp, stinging with the agony of distress. Too loud, still too loud…

Suddenly, her foot planted on top of a large mushroom shelf. She immediately whirled around and bolted, as fast as her small legs could ferry her. The beast could hear her retreat, and followed in hot pursuit. She bounded like a lamb down...

the shelves, holding the frond as she searched desperately for any sign of her parents. The shelf above her cracked, as it broke under the heft of the raptor, sending the scythe-arms bearing down upon her. She feinted to the side, and narrowly avoided a hungry blade. It instead snagged her basket, tearing the sturdy weave and sending all of her glowing harvest hurtling into the pit below.

She launched herself off of the final cap, and landed awkwardly in a gully, crushing her "torch". Coated in illuminating ooze, she stuck out like a fire in a field. More clacking, and then screeches! High pitched screams that echoed throughout the massive cavern, announcing dinner was served.

Looking around frantically while the beast tore down towards her, she quickly scrabbled on her hands and knees towards a hole in the wall. Whether abandoned or occupied, she would take the risk. She wriggled her way into the narrow corridor, the bio-luminescent stain lighting up the tunnel as her fingers grasped...

changed the lighting on his face because I was using his key art for reference but something felt really off about it wrt where the light source is (i.e. the flame in his hand). there's a secret second light source in the original picture but I can't tell where's it's coming from
