In 2014, the bridge became Vermont's newest National Historic Landmark.

Our tour this week stops at the last of the four bridges in Pittsford: Cooley Bridge. Sources say this was one of the earlier bridges built by Nichols Powers in 1849. The bridge was rehabilitated in 2003.

Bridge Du Jour: the Depot Covered Bridge in Pittsford.
The bridge was damaged in the summer of 2005 when an oversized truck tried to go through it. It was closed, and repairs took six months to complete.

Bridge Du Jour: Hammond CB in Pittsford. Built in 1842. It was closed to pedestrian traffic in 2003. In 2005, repairs were done to allow pedestrian foot traffic. It is currently bypassed.

Bridge Du Jour: Gorham CB. The towns of Pittsford and Proctor jointly own this bridge. It underwent renovations between 2003 and 2004. The original bridge was the handiwork of Nichols Powers.

Bridge Du Jour: Kingsley or Mill River CB in East Clarendon. The bridge is named for a family that once operated a nearby mill. It was recently rehabilitated and reopened in July 2024.

Bridge Du Jour: Sanderson CB in Brandon. This bridge was built with a few remaining pieces of the original bridge. The work began in 2002 and was completed in the summer of 2003.

Bridge Du Jour: Coventry CB in Irasburg. AKA Orne. This is the second Paddleford truss bridge is located here. It’s rare but seems to have been the truss of choice here.

Bridge Du Jour: Lords Creek Covered Bridge in Irasburg. This one is in pretty rough shape! The privately owned bridge is one of the few Paddleford trusses remaining in the state.

Bridge Du Jour: Kingsbury or Hyde CB. It was rehabilitated in 2009 and is the only one in the area with rounded portals. It was in Alfred Hitchcock's 1956 movie "The Trouble With Harry".

Bridge Du Jour: Gifford CB in Randolph; another of the multiple kingpost designs. It is thought to have been built initially as an open bridge. It was worked on in 1955, 2001, and 2011.

Bridge Du Jour: Braley CB in Randolph. This is another half-height multiple kingpost bridge in the area. This one was covered shortly after it was built. It was rehabilitated in 2008.

Bridge Du Jour: the Larkin CB in Tunbridge. This is the first of several kingpost bridges here. This style was popular with shorter bridges crossing narrower streams and creeks.

Bridge Du Jour: the Flint CB in Tunbridge. This bridge was restored in 1969 by Milton Graton and was damaged in the summer of 2019, but has been repaired and is back in use.

Bridge Du Jour: Mill CB in Tunbridge. It's another example of the kingpost truss design. This bridge replaced the original bridge in 2000, which was destroyed by an ice jam in 1999.

Bridge DuJour: Fisher RR CB. It stands as a memorial to a time when they were common. It's one of the two existing covered railroad bridges in the state.
Today, the Fisher CB is part of the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail.

Bridge Du Jour: the Scribner CB in Johnson. It’s a nice little bridge in the middle of rolling hills and farmland. The bridge and roadway were damaged during a storm in October a few years ago.
