oh, definitely "thought experiment" for Divergent! More of the "potential horrible future" for Poster Girl, though, which is far more grounded.

I'm so happy to see this thought experiment vs. potential horrible future dystopian dichotomy articulated! Particularly:

"The goal of these books is not to portray a dark future that could happen but rather to amplify and focus on specific disturbing aspects of our society in a white box setting."

I want to note that while technically my books have been banned, I am not adversely affected by those bans because of adequate publisher and market support, so let's all look for newer books by marginalized authors to support during this wonderful week of "fuck you, make me" vibes (banned book week)

Checked out the list of banned books and Allegiant, Carve the Mark, and The End & Other Beginnings are on there (way, way down), which is kind of a weird assortment of my books. Why those and not the others? Unclear.

I agree with all of this and I do think it has a lot to do with your parents and the dynamic between you-- I've felt like my mother's peer since I graduated college, for various reasons (and with all the respect for the wisdom she HAS offered), so it's easy to feel like an adult

Short story idea: technology develops that allows you to pinpoint the exact person who gave you an illness. An author with a persistent stomach bug goes on a revenge quest to make them pay, which is totally reasonable and not at all an extreme reaction.

I don’t want to be Lady Who Complains Online but did you know that when you get a stomach bug and meld into the couch while playing video games for a couple days, that’s not good for your spine and you will…throw your back out while washing your hands

Honestly for me the main video game obstacle is mostly that I have a hard time learning new fighting mechanics, so once I got the “slow down time when firing an arrow” thing, I was on board
