Yes. The thing about NYC is that almost everyone takes the bus from time to time (I take it across town from UWS to UES regularly), but it's an *essential* form of transportation for people who live in the further reaches of the outer boroughs.

In late July, Paul Ingrassia, the White House liaison for the Department of Homeland Security, arrived at a Ritz-Carlton in Orlando with a lower-ranking female colleague and others from their department. When the group reached the front desk, the woman learned she didn’t have a hotel room.

Ingrassia then informed her that she would be staying with him, according to five administration officials familiar with the episode. Eventually the woman discovered that Ingrassia had arranged ahead of time to have her hotel room canceled so she would have to stay with him, three of those officials said.

(or one of my buses. it wraps around from Midtown East to the Upper West Side (dropping folks off in front of the Trader Joe's, so it's invaluable as a route, but it is also my "hey, I've got time and I'm listening to a good but long podcast" bus.)

He says he'd as mayor commute by all modes of public transit as well as bike (Mayor Adams notably also mentioned the bike part before he took office, a vow he rarely made good on).

it's also just the framing of it. If you frame it as "people with kids get a tax credit" so that they pay less taxes overall, it is literally describing the current tax system.

...example. Once, I was on the bus headed downtown, and a woman got on, rode for 20 blocks, and then started demanding of the driver to tell her when we would get to [uptown street], and EVERYONE on the bus took a turn trying to patiently explain to this woman that she was on the wrong bus.

Honestly one of the greatest things about NYC is that moment of camraderie on a subway or bus across race/gender/class lines when there's a weirdo or dummy on board and everyone else makes eye contact with each other and just starts rolling our eyes together.
