Yes. That's why you scrap the loan system and have ALL graduates pay an enhanced rate of tax for x years, as essentially this is what already happens with loans(just with opt outs for the wealthy who don't need them)

The easiest answer to all of this is to reframe these "loans" into a graduate tax (which we all know is what they are anyway) that all graduates have to pay - and those with wealthy parents can't avoid.

It levels the playing field and stops these terrifying (and meaningless) 'balances'.

I'm with you. But it's important to know it's not a cost-free option!

Problem is, many of the shareholders are pension funds. They would lose huge amounts in a bankruptcy situation, costing public and private pensions a fortune. So we'd all still pay anyway.

As someone in Europe, that's certainly how it feels.

That's all very well, but this was already the law, and they don't give a shit.

I lived in London about 20 years ago, and pop back for conferences every now and again from deepest darkest Somerset.

Still walk around alone at night, still use my phone out and about, wear jewellery, and live my life. Still very much alive. It doesn't feel any different today than it did then.

Oh, thank goodness we've got the strong and confident Starmer to lead the negotiations.

Out of interest, how far back does this ability to claim industries go?

Can us Brits have US iron back for instance? I understand we set it up, once upon a time...
